It is offered here as the work of Panin, and no other his methods, his thoughts, his presentation. The page size has been increased, thus the appearance is altered, yet the layman and scholar alike may rest assured that there will be found no elements of whimsy in this edition. Panin himself explains in paragraph 15 of his PREFACE that it is best to leave the meaning ambiguous in English where it is ambiguous in the Greek. The punctuation is exactly as it appears in Panin’s original to avoid additional interpretation. No effort has been made to soften the Text by expansion or simplification. The word order, the paragraphing, and the sentence structure are all intact. The difference between this edition and Panin’s original English translation is vocabulary only. It is a most succinct and salient account. For Panin’s thoughts on the matter, read his PREFACE (following this preface), numbered paragraph 3. the raised N after the verse number indicated that there is a corresponding note which can be found in its place in the NOTES.Ī few points must be made regarding this updated version lest this be seen as a ‘modernization’. Thus Matthew 1:1 readsġNA GENEALOGY of Jesus Christ, David’s Son, Abraham’s Son. We have indicated those verses by a raised N beside the verse number. Immediately following the text of the New Testament are Panin’s NOTES to select verses. These conventions maintain Ivan Panin’s translation distinctions. Thus we have here a readable contemporary English translation that includes a distinction between the singular " you and plural youP", in addition to showing where and where not the article ( the) occurs in the Greek. The language of Panin’s original translation being outside the comfort zone of many readers, it has been updated from classic English to contemporary. THIS EDITION is a companion edition to Ivan Panin’s 1914 translation of the New Testament from his Greek critical text into English.
